Peace Through Art - Memory of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
The purpose of this workshop is to highlight the impact of nuclear warfare by focusing on Sadako, a child whose story has had a profound effect worldwide. Her narrative will help participants understand the consequences of the atomic bomb on individuals. Storytelling has the power to connect the story to the audience and evoke strong emotions.

PowerPoint will utilize official documents from the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum to present basic information while also exploring the deeper implications of atomic bomb usage. The presentation will include a letter from Nobuko Pollock, a Northern Ireland resident who was a victim of the bombing in Nagasaki and lost her brother as a result. The workshop and the letter will further enhance the participants' understanding of the atomic bomb and its effects.
Participants will have a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the beauty of Japanese culture by making origami and experiencing calligraphy, all while contemplating the concept of peace. Many described these artworks as interesting, and calligraphy as very soothing and relaxing.
Given recent events around the world, the danger of using atomic bombs is ever increasing. The workshop aims to discourage their use.
