Japanese-born Storyteller Masako Carey has been liveing in rural Co Antrim, Northern Ireland, since 2001. Masako shares stories in schools, libraries, museums, and community venues with people of all ages and abilities.
As a child, Masako always loved reading books and watching animated Japanese folktale on TV. The influence of the animation world, combined with her experience as a kindergarten teacher at an international school, contributes to her unique storytelling style. Her expanding repertoire includes traditional Japanese tales, both humorous and serious, as well as stories from around the world.
Masako has been a featured storyteller at Belfast Mela, the Cape Clear International Storytelling Festival, Glens of Antrim Storytelling Festival, Wicklow YARN Storytelling Festival, Galway Moth & Butterfly International Festival of Storytelling and Improvisation, Fadó Fadó Storytelling Festival, Story Tent in Dean's Yard at the Westminster Abbey, and The Sneem Storytelling Festival.
Additionally, Masako performs a Japanese story show titled "お話しOhanashi", which features four traditional stories that resonate deeply with audiences.
For Schools...
I am listed in Poetry Island "Writers in the school" scheme. Please click here to book through them.
The Writers in Schools scheme part-funds visits by writers and storytellers to primary and post-primary schools in the Republic of Ireland (funded by The Arts Council) and Northern Ireland (funded by Arts Council Northern Ireland). Due to the limited funding, earlier booking recommended. https://www.poetryireland.ie/education/writers-directory/masako-carey
